'Massie' auditions set
Director Harry Wong is seeking 20 actors for Kumu Kahua Theatre's production of "Massie/Kahahawai" opening in early January 2004.
Roles are for five females and 15 males. Adults of all ages are invited to the auditions at Kumu Kahua Theatre, corner of Merchant and Bethel sts., from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 1; and 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 2. Expect to perform cold readings from the script, some improvisation, and simple movement work.
Arrive early and plan to stay the whole time. Scripts are available for loan with a $10 cash deposit at the theater at 46 Merchant St. Call 536-4222 for more information.
Honoring women
The Maiki Aiu Foundation -- Art of Hawaiian Music Award will present a "Mali'o, A Hawaiian Concert of Women," from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 2, honoring 11 women: Ida Kelii Chun, Pahukoa Morse, Pudgy Young, Lavy Deltoro, Wehilani Ching, Genoa Keawe, Leo Nahenahe, Ethelynne Teves, Mona Teves, Lynette Paglinawan and Noelani Mahoe.
Slated to perform is another impressive roster of women: Darlene Ahuna, Haunani Apoliona, Leilani Rivera Bond, Karen Keawehawaii, Kuuipo Kumukahi, Lorna Lim, Maryann Lim, Nani Lim, and Olana Salazar.
Tickets for the concert are $30, available by calling 949-0242.
Funds raised will benefit the Maiki Aiu Foundation Scholarship / Mentorship Program created in honor of the late kumu hula.
