Drivers took to the track at Hawaii Raceway Park yesterday for some high-speed action. Guy Gonzales burned his tires on his 1967 Chevy Nova for better traction prior to approaching the starting line.

Super Pro class driver Kari Lynn Machida waited at the start line in her IROCZ. Machida has raced for 10 years and comes from a family of racers, the Hamadas, who also run the 50th State Pro Gas Association.

Alan Cordeiro stood behind "Beginner's Luck," a 1964 Chevelle in the Super E.T. (elapsed time) division owned by his brother, Bert. The division requires cars to race the quarter-mile drag strip at 11 seconds or slower and allows racers to run electronic equipment like delay boxes and throttle stops.

Bobby Nascimento worked on the car of his son, defending Pro Sportsman Champion Robbie Nascimento, prior to a qualifying run. Nascimento's home-built dragster, "Bobby's Special," is powered by a 555-cubic-inch Chevy engine with a power glide transmission.
