Neiman Marcus pitches a big-ticket yule
The Neiman Marcus 2003 Christmas Book is out, and once again it's filled with big and little luxuries for those who seemingly have everything, and those who don't.
To start you off easy, everyone can appreciate the simplicity of a trail mix and nut sampler for $35, a candy-detailed gingerbread house crafted from a 400-year-old gingerbread recipe for $50, or a 6 1/2-pound Texas apple pie -- not just any pie, mind you, but the 2002 National Gourmet Pie Champion -- for $30.
But some of the very special items include:
>> An NM Limited Edition 2004 BMW 645Ci Coupe. We're sure there's someone out there who's been extraordinarily good all year and most deserving of this $75,170 "toy."
>> A 500 horsepower Art Deco-inspired Dodge Tomahawk guaranteed to leave other vehicles in the dust as it zips by at 300 mph. HPD try to clock that! Everyone else try to buy that at $555,000.
>> Your very own half-acre piece of environmental art, as imagined by you and created by agricultural artist Stan Herd. The price begins at $160,000 for the very few who even have an estate large enough to accommodate such a gift.
>> A mermaid costume for $10,000. Of course, we won't ask why anyone would need a mermaid costume.
More practical wares include tumblers, martini glasses, cocktail shakers, wine stoppers, Swiss pens, monogrammed money clips and more, all embodying NM elegance.
A portion of sales of selected items, including decorative platters, a snow globe and coffee mugs inspired by Christmas Book's cover art, will benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
Other items include a yoga kit with carrying bag, yoga blocks and mat ($195); Prada skin-care set ($75); 24K gold Fabergé wine stopper ($150); Kate Spade coin purse ($150); and more.
Order the catalog for $15 by phone, 800-634-6267, or online at www.neimanmarcus.com.
