HPU passes BYUH on AVCA poll

The Hawaii Pacific volleyball team was rewarded for its perfect conference record with a jump of three spots in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released yesterday.

The Sea Warriors (13-2, 5-0 PacWest) moved from 14th to 11th with wins over Montana State Billings and Chaminade.

Brigham Young-Hawaii (12-2, 5-0) was unlucky in the poll. The Seasiders received three first-place votes but dropped from sixth to 13th despite not losing. Two of the teams that jumped over the Seasiders lost matches last week.

HPU takes on UH-Hilo this weekend while BYUH visits Chaminade.

Stephenson, Wie to hold free clinic

LPGA legend Jan Stephenson and Punahou's Michelle Wie will hold 'A Celebration of Women in Golf' Sunday at Ko Olina Golf Club.

Hawaii Golf Hall-of-Famer Marga Stubblefield and the Hawaii golf team are also sceduled to appear.

The event is expected to run between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and is free to all comers.

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl to be aired in Japan

Sports-i-ESPN plans to televise the Hawaii Bowl on tape delay to Japan Christmas Day.

The game, which pits opponents from the WAC and Conference USA, will be televised live on ESPN.

Wahine soccer celebration

The Hawaii women's soccer team celebrates its 10th anniversary Oct. 27 with a 6 p.m. dinner at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park prior to the match with Brigham Young. The festivities include a halftime ceremony.

All Rainbow Wahine soccer alumnae are invited to join in the celebration. Please call the UH soccer office at 956-4525.
