HPU defeats Chaminade in 4

Flavia Brakling recorded her eighth double-double of the season (21 kills, 11 digs) as Hawaii Pacific defeated Chaminade 30-21, 21-30, 30-20, 30-17 in a volleyball match last night at James C. Castle Gym.

Fellow sophomore Nadica Karleusa added 12 kills and 10 digs for the 14th-ranked Sea Warriors, who improved to 13-2.

The Silverswords got 19 kills and 11 digs from Kahala Kabalis and 18 kills from Valasi Sepulona. Chaminade dropped to 8-6.

Seasiders beat Vulcans: Ashley Moeai hammered down a match-high 16 kills and Chun Yi Lin added 10 as BYU-Hawaii swept UH-Hilo 30-16, 30-23, 30-19 last night in Laie.

Kalabic leads BYU-Hawaii to sweep

All-American Vanja Kalabic outscored both Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Redlands by himself in leading the BYU-Hawaii water polo team to two victories in the Claremont Convergence.

The Seasiders defeated the host Stags in the first game of the day 12-6. Kalabic led the way with eight goals on ten shots, dropping the Stags to 2-7 on the season. BYU-Hawaii continued its winning ways with a 13-3 win over Redlands in the nightcap.

Irons advances to Quicksilver Pro quarterfinals

Hawaii surfer Andy Irons defeated Australia's Michael Campbell in the Quicksilver Pro France to advance to today's quarterfinals, where he will face Taylor Knox of the United States.

"I'm stoked to get past the 9th (place) round," Irons said. "Seems like I either make the finals or get 9th, so hopefully this means I'll make the final."
