Peak express bus service
to be restored

Peak-hour express bus service that was cut in June because of a budget shortfall will be restored Monday, the city announced yesterday.

Service will be returned to the levels they were before the cut in June when the city eliminated bus runs and increased times between bus arrivals.

The restoration of service was expected after the City Council approved higher bus fares last month, fares that are projected to generate $6.8 million more in revenue.

Fliers with information on the new service are being passed out on buses. Information is also available on TheBus Web site (www.thebus.org) by clicking on "Routes and Timetables."

Affected express routes are numbered in the 80s, 90s and 100s and serve Hawaii Kai, Waipahu, Wahiawa, Mililani Park and Ride, Kailua, Haiku, Aloha Stadium, Pearl City, Ewa Beach, Makakilo City, the Waianae Coast, Village Park, Ewa Gentry and Villages of Kapolei.

The city has updated the list of locations where senior citizens and disabled passengers can pick up new bus passes. The updated list eliminates Blaisdell Center for next week's sign-ups and adds Pearlridge Center. The updated schedule is:
