Grant will help isle
ministry boost funding

Hawaiian Islands Ministries has received a $50,000, two-year grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation for a fund-raising development program.

The funds "will allow us to assess our fundraising strength and weaknesses, to purchase new donor management and development software, and to increase staffing," according to Mary Vinson, HIM executive director.

HIM and two other Hawaii recipients also were awarded one of 25 federal grants nationwide from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Compassion Capital Fund.

HIM is in collaboration with the University of Hawaii Center on Family and the Hawaii Community Foundation in serving the homeless, those switching from welfare to work, and families of the incarcerated.

HIM was founded in 1983 by Dan and Pam Chun to bring world-class training to Hawaii's churches and Christian leaders. The trans-denominational, cross-cultural ministry serves an estimated 400 churches in the state.
