Suffer the little children,
and panel members
I read with hope the news that Governor Lingle has put together a blue-ribbon panel to focus on improving Hawaii's public schools. I do have one simple request of the committee members: Please hold not one, but every, meeting in the middle of the day in a typical unairconditioned public school classroom. Yes, it will be stifling hot. Yes, it will be hard to concentrate. Yes, your fellow committee members will be crabby and unfocused. And yes, you will suffer as our children and their teachers suffer every day. This suggestion is not made in sarcasm, nor in cynicism, but in heartsick despair over the physical and financial condition of Hawaii's public schools.
