Stuffs
A preview of movies opening this weekend:
"Good Boy!" >> In this family comedy, a young boy (Liam Aiken) discovers that the new dog he's befriended is actually an emissary from a planet of canines who has come to Earth to see what happened to their invading army. The emissary must snap up all of the dogs in his area back into shape before the "Great Dane" arrives to inspect the troops. Matthew Broderick lends his voice for the doggie character. (PG)
"House of the Dead" >> In yet another video game adaptation, a group of ravers on a remote island find themselves surrounded by the walking dead. Their only place of sanctuary: A dilapidated and foreboding structure at the very heart of "Isla del Morte." (R)
"Intolerable Cruelty" >> The latest effort from the Coen brothers features George Clooney, their "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" star, as a slick Beverly Hills divorce lawyer who meets his conniving match in a woman (Catherine Zeta-Jones) who's infamous for marrying and divorcing wealthy men. When the lawyer rigs a trial so that the woman will be cheated out of her alimony, she vows revenge by marrying the lawyer herself and aiming to take him to the cleaners. (PG-13)
"Kill Bill: Volume 1" >> After an eight-month shoot that stretched from Beijing to Tokyo to L.A. to rural Mexico, director Quentin Tarantino and Miramax executive Harvey Weinstein decided that this highly-anticipated splatter-a-go-go revenge flick would be better served in two parts. In this first part, we're introduced to the Bride (Uma Thurman), who is left for dead on her wedding day, only to awaken years later from her coma to wreak havoc on her former coworkers (Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah, Vivica A. Fox and Michael Madsen) and gang leader Bill (David Carradine) responsible for attacking her and her now-dead fiance. Along the way, we get healthy servings of samurai swordplay and kung fu kicks, not to mention buckets of blood. (R)
