HOT dancers wanted for 'Merry Widow'
Dancers between ages 16 and 35 are needed for Hawaii Opera Theatre's spring production of "The Merry Widow."
Female dancers will play a number of roles: guests at a big party in Act 1, Ukrainian-style dancers who entertain at a garden party in Act 2 and "Grisettes" (Can-Can dancers) in Act 3.
Men are also required for all these numbers, and perform as dancing waiters in Act 3.
There will be some solo work as well, and the company is looking for a couple to perform in a specialty number.
Acrobatics such as cartwheels, back walkovers, split jumps, etc. will be helpful, as will lifts. Those with gymnastic skills may prepare a short tumbling run with favorite tricks.
Female dancers will also be asked to sing the first verse and chorus to "The Grisettes Song," in a musical theater style. Lyrics will be available from Hawaii Opera at 987 Waimanu St.
Auditions will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29 and 30. Send resumes to: Hawaii Opera Theatre, ATTN: John Parkinson, 987 Waimanu St. No phone calls, please.
