James Ingram
opens ‘POPS’
Season
A GREAT SHOW: The Honolulu Symphony "Pops" season got off to a great start as James Ingram, right, teamed up with principal pops conductor Matt Catingub for a perfect show in the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Friday. Ingram did a solid 70-minute set that included his major hits and a few by other artists -- Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross -- that have special significance for him.

HANGIN' OUT: Mariko Lyons has enjoyed James Ingram's music for years and finally got the chance to meet him after the show. "One Hundred Ways" and "Yah Mo Be There" were two of the highlights, but Ingram is also an entertaining story teller.

HJQ, THE NEXT GENERATION?: John Kolivas, left, founder and leader of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet, introduced his son, Kainalu, to James Ingram after the concert. The HJQ opened the program with several songs off their new "Sounds of the City" CD. Matt Catingub sat in with the HJQ on a Cole Porter tune and several members of the symphony took solos on "Woody's Blues."
