Volunteers with the Windward Ahupuaa Alliance, including Kenneth Quirin, far right, and state Sen. Bob Hogue, third from the right, sign-waved yesterday at the entrance to Kapaa Quarry Road to promote the "Bust-A-Dumper" campaign to stop illegal dumping along the road. The group is hiring off-duty police officers to patrol the road at night and train citizens to patrol it during the day, taking down license-plate numbers of anyone pitching junk.

Laurens Laudowicz carefully put a lei on a 70-year-old, 200-pound Buddha statue that was placed on the ocean floor yesterday off Portlock for divers to enjoy. Laudowicz is president of a company that sells Chinese antiques, sculpture and furnishings. He also donated the statue, which was placed in 35 feet of water at a dive spot called Koko Craters.

Honolulu residents waited in line yesterday for the opportunity to buy a luxury condominium at The Windsor at 343 Hobron Lane. Formerly known as the Outrigger Ohana Hobron, the hotel has since been converted to condo units that will be offered for sale beginning tomorrow. People began lining up on Hobron late Thursday. Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties is taking reservations for 179 units, starting at $260,000 for one-bedroom units and $309,000 for two-bedroom units.
