From the mouths of babes
A couple of days before the baseball playoffs start, I'm reading the paper when my son Zack comes up and asks, "Are the Red Sox a good team?"
I say, "Yeah, they're real good. They're in the playoffs."
"Can they win the World Series?" he asks.
"Nope."
"Why not?"
"They're cursed."
"Whattaya mean?"
"Well, in 1918, the Red Sox won the World Series. A couple of months later, they sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees and they haven't won the World Series since. And they never will. They're cursed."
"What do you mean, 'sold'?"
"Well, the Yankees paid the Red Sox owner $100,000, and they got Babe Ruth."
He thinks for a few seconds and finally asks, "Why would they sell a good player like Babe Ruth?"
He's only 8, and already, he gets it.
