Oral Roberts slips past
UH with late goal
From staff and wire reports
TULSA, Okla. >> The cold and rainy weather put a damper on the Hawaii women's soccer team's hopes of coming home with three victories on its second road trip of the year.
Oral Roberts (5-4-1) managed to score at 84:29 on a goal by Jessica Kellogg to edge the Rainbow Wahine (7-3-1) 1-0 yesterday in a nonconference match. She was assisted by Heather Hall.
"The goal was on a shot that Mahie (Atay) normally would have stopped, but with the wet field and heavy, wet ball, it slipped past her," UH coach Pinsoom Tenzing said.
"We played badly in the first half and I don't think we were up for the game. Oral Roberts came out to play against a team with a winning record who had some strong victories in the past few days."
The Wahine put six of their 12 shots on goal, but ORU goalkeeper Kellie Fenton was up to the task. Erin Chow and Atay each played a half between the pipes for UH.
Hawaii's leading scorer, Natasha Kai, did not play due to a sprained right ankle and midfielder Seline Williams was not feeling well and sat out.
"We got the two big ones (Western Athletic Conference wins) we needed on this trip," Tenzing said.
The Wahine, 2-0 in the WAC, host defending champion Southern Methodist on Friday and Texas-El Paso on Sunday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park stadium. Both visitors will arrive here undefeated in conference action.
