NOAA offers class
on protected species


The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries Pacific Islands Regional Office will hold its annual workshops in Honolulu to teach fishermen ways to prevent deaths of protected species.

The workshops are mandatory for vessel owners and operators in Hawaii longline fishery who will receive certificates upon completion.

The half-day workshops will provide techniques on how to handle and release protected species and identification methods for sea turtles and seabirds.

The sessions will be held this Friday, Oct. 10 and 17 at NOAA Fisheries Pacific Islands Regional Office Training Room, 1601 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 1110. Parking will be validated. Registration is at 8 a.m. The workshop runs 8:30 a.m. to noon. For more information, call Karla Gore at 973-2937.
