Gourmet adventures
Foods of Asia and Australia will be featured at "Collections in Cuisine," the third annual Food & Wine Festival at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental.
The three-day affair, Oct. 8 to 11, will bring to Hawaii chefs from the Mandarin Oriental chain's Hong Kong and Thailand properties -- Lee Yiu Ming of Man Wah in the Mandarin Oriental and Jennarong Saengsurajantharakul of the Oriental, Bangkok.
From Australia comes wine importer Dan Phillips of the Grateful Palate.

Here are the highlights:
"Luminous" Welcome Reception: A benefit for community college culinary programs, featuring chefs D.K. Kodama of Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Göran Streng of the Hawaii Prince Hotel and Wayne Hirabayashi of the Kahala Mandarin; 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8, Maile Ballroom, $40. Jewelry and watches by sponsor Bulgari will be displayed.
Man Wah Dinner: A seven-course classic Cantonese dinner by chef Lee; 6 p.m. Oct. 9, Maile Ballroom, $80.
Ocean Treasures with Asian Spice: A five-course dinner by chefs Hirabayashi and Joshua Nudd of the Kahala Mandarin, joined by Saengsurajantharakul, centers on Thai and Pacific Rim flavors paired to German Rieslings; 6 p.m. Oct. 9, Hoku's, $85.
Thai Curry Cooking Demonstration: By Saengsurajantharakul; includes a lunch buffet; 11:30 a.m. Oct. 10, Veranda, $45.
In the Outback: A five-course dinner of Australian-inspired cuisine, paired to wines from the Grateful Palate portfolio; 6 p.m. Oct. 10, Hoku's, $95.
Chinese Cooking Demonstration: By the chefs of Man Wah; includes lunch; 11:30 a.m. Oct. 11, Hoku's, $70.
East Meets Hawaii: Featuring dishes by all the guest chefs; 6 p.m. Oct. 11, Hoku's, $100.

Mondavi dinner: Chefs Chip Chase and Russell Siu plan a menu paired to the Robert Mondavi Family of Wines portfolio, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 2, $85.
Harvest Celebration: Dine from among appetizer and wine stations throughout the dining room. Wines again will be from the Robert Mondavi Family, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 3, $40; tickets must be purchased in advance.
