Kim leads Waikoloa Open by 5

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii >> Tommy Kim shot a 6-under 66 to take a five-stroke lead going into today's second round of the 30th Waikoloa Open golf tournament.

Kevin Hayashi shot a 71 for second place in the Pro flight with John Lynch third at 72.

Larry Stubblefield had the low round of the day, with his 65 giving him a four-stroke lead in Senior Pro flight. Tied for second at 69 were Steven Hookano and Alan Texeira.

The 54-hole tournament concludes tomorrow. Play is on the Waikoloa Kings', Beach and Village courses.

Wahine improve: Dale Gammie shot an 8-over par 154 to lead the Hawaii women's golf team into fifth place at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at Albuquerque, N.M., yesterday.

The Wahine improved by 20 strokes over their first-round score. The tournament concludes today.

Sea Warriors get another win on the road

The Hawaii Pacific volleyball team swept Montana State-Billings 30-28, 30-24, 30-20 in a nonconference match at Alterowitz Gymnasium in Billings, Mont., last night, running their record on the road to 8-0.

The Sea Warriors (9-2) were led by the sophomore trio of Flavia Brakling (15 kills), Nadica Karleusa (13), and Vera Oliveira (35 assists). The Yellowjackets dropped to 3-10.

Jube takes over Saint Louis soccer

Former Hawaii Pacific soccer standout Cesar Jube was named head coach of the boys soccer program at Saint Louis School yesterday.

Jube is HPU's all-time leading scorer with 52 goals over four years (1996-99) for the now-defunct program and most recently coached at St. Joseph's.

Seasiders split in Slugfest

The Brigham Young-Hawaii water polo team lost 9-3 to Santa Clara at the UC Santa Cruz Slugfest yesterday in Santa Cruz, Calif.

BYUH later beat Massachusetts Institute of Technology 18-5 to improve to 3-3. The Engineers dropped to 7-2.
