Local 9/11 victim honored with culinary library
A former Honolulu resident who was killed at the World Trade Center, where she was an award-winning pastry chef, is being honored with a culinary library in her name.
Heather Ho, the executive pastry chef at the Windows on the World restaurant on the North Tower's 107th floor, will be remembered with a $30,000 collection of culinary books and tapes being donated to Hawaii's community colleges.
The donation of more than 800 cookbooks, technical manuals and videotapes is being made by the Honolulu chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier, an international organization of women in the culinary field.
Ho, 32, attended Hanahauoli School and graduated from Punahou School in 1987.

Police try to identify man injured on Kalakaua Avenue
Honolulu police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who was found injured in front of a Waikiki apartment building at 1911 Kalakaua Ave.
Police did not disclose the nature of his injury.
Police said the victim was found at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 15 and is currently in critical condition at the Queen's Medical Center. The victim is described as in his 60s to 70s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with white hair, a tattoo of a seagull on his right arm and another tattoo on his left arm.

Police suspect racing a factor in Maili crash
Racing is suspected in a car crash that sent two people to the hospital Monday night, police said.
Police said the car was Makaha-bound on Farrington Highway in Maili at a high rate of speed about 8 p.m. when the driver, a 19-year-old Ewa Beach man, braked to avoid two bicyclists crossing the highway near the Maipela Street intersection. The car skidded and crashed into a light pole and a fence. The driver and passenger of the other car involved in the race stopped at the scene.
The Ewa Beach man was in serious condition and his passenger, a 19-year-old Pearl City man, was in critical condition when they were taken to Queen's Medical Center by medevac helicopter. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Tokyo tourists robbed at Waikoloa condo
HILO >> Two women visiting the Big Island from Tokyo were attacked and robbed in front of their Waikoloa condominium, police said.
The victims were accosted by two men as they walked back to their condo after dinner about 8 p.m. Sunday, according to police. One suspect stole a purse and the other tried unsuccessfully to take a fanny pack.

Pedestrian airlifted after Mililani accident
An elderly pedestrian had to be airlifted to the Queen's Medical Center after he was struck by a vehicle in Mililani last night.
The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. near Meheula Parkway and Aaahi Street. Fire and ambulance crews said the victim was struck by a Chevy four-wheel-drive vehicle and sustained severe injuries to his right leg. Paramedics said the victim was in serious condition when he was airlifted to Queen's.
