HOUSTON >> The Houston Astros are struggling to hold on to their NL Central lead.
Pinch-hitter Pedro Feliz and Ray Durham hit consecutive homers off Billy Wagner in the ninth inning last night, sending the San Francisco Giants to a 6-3 victory over the Astros.
Houston lost its third in a row and dropped into a tie for the division lead with the Chicago Cubs, who did not play. The Cubs hold a share of first place for the first time since Sept. 10.
"We have battled hard the last few days and we're still right there," Jeff Bagwell said. "We're playing against a very good team. That's why they're the team they are, they keep coming at you. They've got 25 guys who can beat you."
Marquis Grissom and Andres Galarraga also homered for the Giants, giving them a 2-0 lead. Bonds went 0-for-4, ending his streak of reaching base in 58 straight games.
"That's just one game," Bagwell said. "We've each got six games left. It's a six-game race and may the best team win. The team that executes the best is going to win in this last stretch."
Giants starter and Waipahu product Jerome Williams pitched six innings. He allowed 10 hits and three earned runs. Williams is 2-2 in his last 11 starts..
Houston went ahead 3-2 in the fourth on an RBI triple by Hidalgo and Ausmus' squeeze bunt.
"We've been in this position much of the year, swapping positions with St. Louis and Chicago," Jeff Kent said. "This hurts. We don't have much room to wiggle in right now."
