Brigham Yong University-Hawaii rode its young stars to a 30-19, 29-31, 30-15, 30-23 win over Western New Mexico yesterday in Silver City, N.M.
Sophomores Yu Chuan Wen and Chun Yi Lin put down 20 and 17 kills respectively and freshmen libero Federica Tonon, playing in just her second match ever for BYUH, recorded 29 digs which ranks third all-time in school history for digs in a game.
UCLA sweeps team titles
UCLA dominated the University of Hawaii Big Wave Cross Country Invitational yesterday at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, sweeping both the men's and women's team titles.
In the men's draw, the Bruins took five of the top seven individual spots, including a first-place finish by Austin Ramos in 15:13.
In the women's race, the Bruins shocked two-time defending national champions Brigham Young, even though BYU's Michaela Mannova placed first individually with a time of 13:28.
Hawaii finished sixth overall, led by freshmen Chantelle Laan and Dana Buchanan, who placed 24th and 25th.
Frazier headlines QB Club
Hawaii athletic director Herman Frazier will be the featured speaker at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
Linebackers coach Cal Lee and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh will also speak and take questions.
The QB Club luncheon is held at the Pagoda Restaurant and begins at noon after lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.
