Seasiders sweep Mustangs in PacWest opener

The Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball team opened the Pacific West Conference season with a 30-15, 30-28, 30-15 sweep of Western New Mexico at Silver City, N.M., yesterday.

Senior middle blocker Ashley Moeai led the Seasiders with 13 kills and six blocks and hit .400.

Silverswords swamp Vulcans: Chaminade opened its conference season with a 30-28, 30-23, 31-29 sweep of Hilo at McCabe Gym yesterday.

Freshman Patti Hardimon led Chaminade with 18 kills.

6-foot-9 center transfers to HPU

Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team has signed 6-foot-9 center Audrius Peciukas, coach Russell Dung said yesterday.

Peciukas, the brother of University of Hawaii guard Vaidotas Peciukas, transferred from Arkansas-Monticello where he averaged four points and three rebounds in his freshman season. The Weevils were 9-18 last season.

Maui tennis team competing at nationals

A team from Lahaina is participating at the USA League Tennis 5.0 Adult National Championships in Palm Springs, Calif. Competition began yesterday and concludes tomorrow at the Riviera Resort & Racquet Club and the Moore Tennis Academy.

Representing the USTA's Hawaii Section is captain Kaz Yamanoha along with Stephen Simpson, Lee Killett, George Wolf, Franck Soler and Michael Nordstrom.
