Hawaiian Air soars
The stock of Hawaiian Airlines' parent left investors and bankruptcy experts scratching their heads this week as it soared 77.8 percent on heavy volume to headline performances in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. Hawaiian Holdings Inc., which closed at 75 cents two weeks ago, ended yesterday at $1.60. It traded as high as $1.75 on Wednesday.
A market specialist at the American Stock Exchange attributed the surge to institutional buying.
Maui Land & Pineapple Co., which closed a deal to sell Queen Kaahumanu Center, was next with a 7.9 percent gain.
