McLachlin to turn pro at Boise Open
Parker McLachlin, a Punahou School and UCLA graduate, competes in his first professional golf tournament today when he tees it up at the Albertsons Boise Open in Idaho.
The $600,000 Nationwide Tour stop also features Punahou freshman Michelle Wie and Kamehameha Schools product Keoke Cotner. Wie, playing on a sponsor's exemption, is the first female junior amateur to compete in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event.
Wie is seeking to become the first female in 50 years to make the cut at a men's professional golf event. The top 60 golfers will advance to Saturday's third round.
Vulcans Sing Chow, Steele cited

Garbin earns Pac-10 soccer honor
Baldwin High graduate Nicole Garbin, a sophomore forward for the University of Oregon soccer team, was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week yesterday.
Garbin, the Star-Bulletin's Player of the Year in 2001, scored two goals and had one assist to lead the Ducks to a 3-1 win at Sacramento State and UO's first 5-0 start in school history.
Garbin's point total (five) was one shy of the school single-game record set by Chalise Baysa in 1998.
