Duff’s birthday
boon for Kauai

"Hillary Duff's Island Birthday Bash," a musical special that filmed for four days on Kauai Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, celebrates the performer's 16th birthday and features music from her new CD, "Metamorphosis." The show airs Sept. 24 on the WB. An encore performance of the one-hour special, with an up-close and personal look at the actress, will air Sept. 28.

Duff was filmed taking a zodiac ride along the Na Pali coast, snorkeling, scuba diving and surfing around Poipu. An outdoor concert at the Hyatt Regency Kauai was attended by 100 local children and adults with Duff singing, a surprise appearance from one of her favorite bands, many of the actress's friends and her older sister Haylie.

Some 35 local crew worked on the production, most from Kauai. ...

The Garden Isle also was the base for eight days of filming of an infomercial for the Power 90 workout, employing 20 Kauai crew members. The production built a large set along the Waialua River. The infomercial airs early in 2004. ...

Budget changes killed plans for "E.R." coming to Hawaii again next month to film for a few days for its opening episode. ...

Universal Studios' Brett Johnson, vacationing here recently, says no decision has been made on whether "Jurassic Park IV" will be filmed in Hawaii, saying the story line favors a more urban environment. ...

Hawaii will be featured big time this week on the cover of US magazine, with a photo of pop star Justin Timberlake getting kissed by girlfriend Cameron Diaz while the singer sits atop his surfboard at the Old Man's surf break near Diamond Head. Timberlake, slated to co-star in a hush-hush Hawaii-based movie next year, also was photographed golfing at the Waialae Golf Course, carrying Diaz piggyback from a Hawaii Kai chiropractor's office and on the lanai of a $2,500-a-night, five-bedroom, 6.5-bath oceanfront home just Koko Head of the golf course that the couple shared with eight friends and family.

And despite all the previous news to the contrary, Diaz, sources say, did not break her nose last week due to a surfing mishap.
