Young singers wanted
Auditions for the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus will take place Saturday at Kawaiaha'o Church for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 12 interested in singing in a community choral/music education program.
Call times are as follows:
Grades K and 1: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Grades 2 and 3: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Grades 4 through 12: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Boys with changed voices: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Arrive 20 minutes prior to the call time to fill out a registration form.
Interested students will participate in a full rehearsal and will also be auditioned individually to determine range and vocal quality. The process is not intended to weed out singers. (There are no auditions for grades K and 1, only an enrollment period.)
The Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus (formerly the Honolulu Children's Opera Chorus) is the longest-running and largest youth chorus in the state. Since 1961 the chorus has provided singers for all Hawaii Opera Theatre productions requiring children's participation.
Chorus rehearsals take place Saturday mornings in Kawaiaha'o's Performing Arts Center. Call 521-2982.
