Larry Himalaya performed a flying side kick at the Dae Jan Chi Festival held in Ala Moana Beach Park yesterday. The 8-year-old, who has a black belt in tae kwon do, was assisted by Chang Yoo, who held a wood panel that Himalaya broke to pieces before landing.

Tiki carver Kaniteli "Gus" Guttenbeil stood behind his wares yesterday at the Dole Plantation in Wahiawa. Guttenbeil, who has carved wood for nearly 20 years, said he chose the profession because he thought it was a good job with which to grow old.
