Renewable energy
plans are sought

Renewable Hawaii Inc. is seeking proposals for renewable-energy projects in Maui County.

The renewable-energy subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Co. has up to $10 million to invest in projects to produce electricity for Hawaii from renewable resources, such as sun, wind, hydro, biomass, ocean or geothermal energy.

Renewable Hawaii proposes to partner with energy developers as a minority investor. It is reviewing eight proposals for projects on Oahu. Investment announcements for Oahu are expected in December.

Project proposals for Maui, Molokai and Lanai are due by Dec. 4 and will be awarded by April, the company said. Proposals for the Big Island will be solicited in the future.

Proposals must be able to connect into the island's electric system without affecting service reliability, have a capacity of at least 1 megawatt and a planned date of commercial operation no later than Dec. 31, 2008.
