Scholars to debate
existence of God
at free UH event

Two scholars will apply science and belief to the question of whether there is a supreme being and creator in a free public debate at the University of Hawaii.
"The Great Debate: Is There a God?" will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the UH Campus Center Ballroom.
-- William Lane Craig, research professor of philosophy at the Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, Calif., will present the theist position. He is the author of books and journal articles including "Theism, Atheism and Big Bang Cosmology."
-- Victor Stenger, retired UH physics professor and now adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado, will take the atheist position. He is the author of several books including "Has Science Found God? The Latest Results in the Search for Purpose in the Universe."
The free public event is part of the Alec and Belle Waterhouse Lecture Series, underwritten by the charitable trust established by the late Alexander C. Waterhouse.
It is co-sponsored by Hawaii Youth for Christ University Fellowship, which presents Christian programs at the university.
