The University of Hawaii Foundation has selected Howard Karr, retired vice chairman of First Hawaiian Bank, as board chairman.
Karr, a businessman, community leader and alumnus of UH, has been a member of the foundation's board of trustees for more than nine years and served as its chairman in 1997.
Karr, a 1966 graduate of the UH's College of Business Administration, formerly was chief financial officer of BancWest Corp., the parent of First Hawaiian. Earlier this year, the UH Alumni Association presented him with the Distinguished Alumni Award.
