"The Fast And the Furious" director Rob Cohen will direct the biopic "Kamehameha" starring The Rock (aka Dwayne Johnson). Cohen is "slightly concerned" about reports that some Hawaiian community members are worried about The Rock's lack of Hawaiian heritage, given the local importance of the role he'd be playing. ...

"ER" is reportedly considering a return to Hawaii to film four days on Oahu for next season's opener in October. An episode filmed earlier this year on Oahu had the location doubling as the Congo. ...

Forward Pass Productions/Dreamworks' film "Collateral" starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and Jamie Foxx may do some casting in Honolulu. The film, which begins production in Los Angeles in October, is about a L.A. cab driver forced to serve as a chauffeur to a contract killer on a string of hits. ...

Warner Bros.' "The Big Bounce" (cast of Owen Wilson, Morgan Freeman and Gary Sinise), filmed on Oahu earlier this year and last, will not open during the big December holiday season but Jan. 31. Other Oahu-based films' openings: Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's "Fifty First Kisses," Feb. 13; Ben Stiller's "Captured," Mar. 12; and "The Rundown" (formerly titled "Helldorado" and starring The Rock), Sept. 26. Local production executive Angie Laprete will produce next year's week-long, first annual celebration of entertainment in Waikiki XENTOPIA by New York-based WorldAsia. She'll work with WorldAsia founder/CEO/president Michael Tsang. ...

Tom Selleck isn't giving up on his return to network TV series with his series "Touch 'Em All McCall." NBC didn't pick it up for this coming season's lineup, but the network still has an option on it. Selleck plays a former pro baseball player who returns to his hometown after exiting the game with "a small amphetamine problem." He's just been fired as the spokesman for a colon cleansing company -- the end of the line for his celebrity. ...

Star sighting: Cameron Diaz in Waikiki with a bandaged nose last weekend. The actress, who started surfing here a few months ago while visiting gal pal Drew Barrymore during the filming of "Fifty First Kisses," was slightly injured when her surfboard hit her in the face.
