Tequila Festival
Compadres Bar & Grill in Ward Centre begins its countdown to Mexican Independence day with at Tequila festival, tomorrow through Sept. 15. Key events:
Tomorrow: DJs T Rex and the Boys host a party, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., with $2 margaritas and rotating Tequila shot specials.
Tuesday: "Support the UH Warriors" party, 4 to 7 p.m., with green Midori margaritas and a taco-eating contest.
Wednesday and Sept. 10: Compadres' Puma Party, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. with Sauza SWAT team
Thursday and Sept. 11: "Mazatlan Night," with salsa dancing (free lessons at 9 p.m.). Latin DJs, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Sept. 8 and Sept. 15: Sauza Mix-off Bartender Olympics, with a $350 prize for best new drink recipe using Sauza tequila (to enter call 591-8307).
Sept. 15: Finale party, 9 p.m. to midnight, with mariachi music and bartender finals.

Special events
Wines of Veuve Clicquot and Domaine Bouchard: Hoku's in the Kahala Mandarin Oriental begins a monthly series of wine dinners on Sept. 9. Chef Joshua Nudd's menu includes a Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese appetizer (with the 1995 Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Magnum) and Crispy-Seared Onaga with Shimeji Mushroom Cream (1997 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru). Reception is at 7 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $85. Call 739-8856.
