Williams coming
back tomorrow
From staff and wire reports
Jerome Williams has been noticeably absent from the San Francisco Giants' rotation recently, but after the break to tweak his delivery, the Waipahu alumnus is ready to return.
He is scheduled to take the mound tomorrow against Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Williams last started on Aug. 19 against the Atlanta Braves. He allowed four earned runs on 6 2/3 innings. The Giants skipped the rookie's next turn in the rotation to correct a delivery problem.
"It was just dropping my arm angle down while I was trying to throw the ball harder," Williams said on the team Web site.
In his past six starts, Williams has a 5.03 ERA. During the stretch, he gave up seven home runs, including three in that start against Atlanta, and raised his ERA from 2.64 to 3.52.
Williams' generosity with the long ball was especially alarming given that he didn't allow a home run in his first 10 major league starts.
Williams (5-3) is confident that the side work will help him regain his touch. "I feel good going out there throwing, and if they decided to give me a rest, it's fine," Williams said.
