George Takenaga picked up box jellyfish No. 181 yesterday at Ala Moana Beach Park. He said he disposes of them so kids will not get stung by them. Ocean Safety officials reported 88 box jellyfish stings at Waikiki Beach yesterday after about 1,000 jellyfish were sighted there. There were 748 jellyfish sightings at Ala Moana Beach but only two reports of stings, officials said. The influx of jellyfish began Thursday and is expected to end today.
