'Arabian Nights' back

The popular "Tales from the Arabian Nights" series at the Opium Den at Indigo continues this weekend with "Shaharazad's First Tale."

Event organizer and chief storyteller Jeff Gere promises this will be the full story of the kept woman and her threatening husband, King Shahriyar.

Willow Chang and musicians Reggae McGowen and Larry Ward will help bring the story to life.

Seating is limited to 35; reservations are suggested. A glass of champagne is still part of the admission price.

The Opium Den is upstairs at Indigo, 1121 Nuuanu Ave. The show runs 7:30 to 10 p.m. tomorrow, repeating Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. Admission is $20. Call 521-2900.

Greek Festival at park

Fill up on gyros, souvlaki, moussaka and more at the Greek Festival taking place noon to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion.

The event, sponsored by Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, celebrates Greek culture with Greek foods and entertainment, including guitarist Sotos Kappas, the Hellenic Sounds Band, Nissiostis Dancers, belly-dancing and more.

Also, sample the ouzo liquor; red, white and Retsina Boutari wine; and Mythos beer, shipped in from Greece.

Admission is $3 for adults. Children under 11 will be admitted free. Call 521-7220.

Explore Kaimuki

The Greater East Honolulu Community Alliance and area merchants are inviting all of Honolulu to "Come Back to Kaimuki" tomorrow for the second Kaimuki Kanikapila, with games, food and entertainment.

The event starts with a Summer Craft Faire at Kaimuki Community Park from 1 to 7 p.m., with the Royal Hawaiian Band performing.

This will be followed by the Waialae Avenue party, 5 to 10 p.m., between Sierra Drive and Koko Head Avenue. Entertainment includes MoonGlow, Hema Pa'a, Pali, Bruddah Bruddah, Espiritu Libre, Jon Yamasato, John Cruz, the KokoSamba clowns and flamenco dancers.

Neighborhood restaurants will sell food, and area businesses will host crafts demonstrations, fashion shows and other activities.

Admission is free. Park at Kaimuki High, Sacred Hearts and St. Patrick's schools. A free Kaimuki-Kapahulu-Waikiki shuttle will take you to the site, but you must visit one of the vendors for a return ride token.

Build or redo

Homeworks Construction's monthly "Build New Or Redo" seminar will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sam Choy's Diamond Head Restaurant, 449 Kapahulu Ave.

The free seminar, co-sponsored by Hawaii Home & Remodeling magazine, offers tips on how to get started with your home improvement project, including topics of kitchen design, garage and roll-up doors, paint and coatings, building materials, countertops and flooring, kitchen appliances and more.

Homeworks construction specialist Mike Mudgett will provide an overview on how to get started with your projects; Dan Georgia, of Century 21, will offer statistics on how remodeling adds value to your home; and Derek Cheng, of American Savings Bank, will share the latest loan products available for home improvement.

Speakers will meet with guests in one-on-one sessions to discuss projects. Guests are invited to bring along project plans for review.

Organic garden basics

Join in the fun as the Waimanalo Health Center presents a hands-on organic gardening workshop, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the health center grounds, 41-1347 Kalanianaole Highway.

Kimberly Clark, owner of Just Add Water, will host the workshop and cover techniques and tips on soil fertility balancing, nontoxic pest control, human nutrition and more.

The cost is $35. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Mala Laulima After School Program.
