Lingle appoints a new
deputy director of DOT

Gov. Linda Lingle has appointed Bruce Matsui as deputy director of the state Department of Transportation, effective today.

Matsui has served as deputy attorney general since 1987, advising the department on legal matters relating to airports, highways and harbors.

"Having worked closely with the DOT for the past 16 years, Bruce understands the department's functions as well as the various issues and challenges," said Lingle.

As deputy attorney general, Matsui has mainly focused on transactional work including property acquisitions, expansions and lease negotiations. He has assisted the department to resolve disputes relating to state and air carrier leases and airport concessions.

Matsui practiced with the law firm of Kobayashi Watanabe Sugita Kawashima & Goda before joining the Department of the Attorney General. He graduated from the University of Hawaii and Hastings College of Law.
