Chaminade lecture focuses on recovering from trauma

The timing and the topic of the Chaminade University Mackey Marianist Lecture is tuned to the approaching anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Psychologist Robert Grant will discuss "The Psychological and Spiritual Dimensions of Post Traumatic Stress" in the free lecture at 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Mystical Rose Oratory on the campus at 3142 Waialae Ave.

He also will conduct workshops for victims of trauma and people who provide care or counseling for them. He will explore the psychological impact of trauma from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 and the spiritual impact of trauma from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 10. The $15 cost of each workshop will include lunch.

Grant, of Oakland, Calif., has done extensive work with victims of natural disasters, as well as victims and perpetrators of abuse. He trains medical personnel and spiritual counselors who deal with trauma victims and is the author of "Healing the Soul of the Church," "Way of the Wound, the Spirituality of Trauma and Transformation," and "A Comprehensive and Integrative Approach to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Trauma," a guide for therapists, physicians and pastoral counselors.

For reservation information, call Brother Dennis Schmitz, 735-4801.

The workshops are co-sponsored by Catholic Charities, the Diocesan Office of the Vicar for Clergy and the Marianist Center of Hawaii. The lecture series is named for the late Father Robert Mackey, founder and first president of Chaminade.

Christian revival scheduled at Dole

A Christian revival meeting will come to Iwilei next week, but rather than the traditional tent setting, it will be in the cool comfort of Dole Cannery Ballroom.

Television evangelists Christian and Robin Harfouche will open their "Hawaii Blessing" series at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Music, testimonies and healing prayers will be presented nightly through next Saturday.

Believers' meetings will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through next Saturday.
