Hawaiian stock could resume trade

Hawaiian Holdings Inc. said it has patched up its differences with its stock transfer agent, Mellon Investor Services, and trading in its shares could resume in a few days.

The parent of Hawaiian Airlines had its trading on the American Stock Exchange suspended July 14 after Mellon quit as transfer agent. Mellon dropped out because Hawaiian Holdings owed it money, an amount one source said was $14,000.

The holding company said it couldn't pay the bill because it did not have access to the funds of its sole subsidiary, the airline. The subsidiary is in a bankruptcy reorganization and its trustee, Joshua Gotbaum, took the position that he wasn't authorized to spend any money for expenses of the parent company.

Hawaiian Holdings announced yesterday that it has reached a new agreement with Mellon, which will resume its role as transfer agent, the party that records stock buying and selling transactions.

Hawaiian Holdings also said it has been having discussions with the American Stock Exchange in an effort to get the trading halt lifted.

The company did not disclose the details of its settlement with Mellon and representatives were unavailable for comment.

Hawaiian's stock last traded at 80 cents.

Persis sells California warehouse

Hawaii's Persis Corp. has sold its 656,000 square foot Wal-Mart distribution center in California for $27.6 million. The buyer was Washington State Investment Board.

Persis acquired the industrial building in Loma Linda in July 2001 several months after Wal-Mart occupied the facility.

Persis said it will continue to pursue a strategy of rebalancing its portfolio of 2 million square feet of leased space over the next 18 months.

Tech firm hopes to hire

Salt Lake tech company Referentia Systems Inc. will conduct open house interviews on Wednesday and accept resumes for networking and software positions, some of which would be created if the company wins a military contract.

Referentia, formed in 1996, is teaming with two other major companies to bid on a Pacific Air Forces Network Management Support contract. If it wins, it will look to fill 20 to 30 positions, the company said. Referentia has about 25 employees.

The open house will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at Referentia's offices at 4429 Malaai Street, Suite 104. Resumes may also be e-mailed to jobs@referentia.com. Candidates must qualify for secret-level security clearance.
