Gerald L. Crow, Waikiki Aquarium acting curator and author of "Sharks and Rays of Hawaii," will appear on a segment of the Discovery Channel show "Shark Week" to be aired Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Crow, who heads the aquarium's shark-research program, discusses Hawaii's tiger sharks in the two-hour segment called "Shark Roulette," filmed by the BBC.
He describes what the sharks eat (including such items as raincoats, buckets and shoes), how their eyes are adapted to hunting near the surface, and how they eliminate indigestible objects by gastric eversion, a process that turns their stomachs inside out.
Crow has appeared in other episodes of "Shark Week" and is featured in the Discovery Channel's book, "Sharks! The Mysterious Killers."
