A female tour bus driver is arrested on
charges of punching a horn-tooter in traffic

Honolulu police arrested a tour bus driver last night after she allegedly got out of her bus and punched the driver of a car following a traffic confrontation, then drove off with her bus load of passengers.

According to police, the confrontation happened about 6:30 p.m. at the corner of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard, one of the busiest intersections in the city.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Kaimuki woman, told police she honked her horn several times after the tour bus cut her off as she was turning onto Kapiolani from Ala Moana Center.

She said the tour bus driver then followed her and when she was stopped at a traffic light, the driver got out of the bus and punched her. The woman called 911 and gave police the license number and description of the bus.

Police found the bus, belonging to Ilima Tours & Transportation, and the driver, a 23-year-old Kalihi woman, at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii Hotel. They arrested the driver for investigation of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle after the victim identified her.

Police later released the suspect without charges pending investigation. Officials at Ilima Tours had no comment.
