Grand finale for mele
The final AIG Hawai'i Bishop Museum Moonlight Mele concert for the summer will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hawaiian language immersion program 'Aha Punana Leo.
Leading musicians of the Hawaiian music renaissance will perform -- including Peter Moon and Palani Vaughan, who rarely make public appearances. Martin Pahinui, George Kuo, Aaron Mahi and Aunty Genoa Keawe will also help honor the program that has graduated five classes of seniors educated entirely in Hawaiian.
The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the Great Lawn of the Bishop Museum.
The lineup will also feature emerging talents Kainani Kahaunaele and Wish List, and Kilinahe, all of whom have strong ties to 'Aha Punana Leo.
Tickets are $15, $5 for children and $10 for museum members and AIG employees and customers. Call 847-8290.
