Chang DVD gets
positive review
FINALLY saw the Timmy Chang DVD yesterday. I'd give it two stars. Decent soundtrack, the plot didn't really go anywhere and it ran a little long, but it's still a nice feel-good effort. Timmy's the kind of lead character you can root for.
Seriously, I would have liked to have seen more highlights and fewer special effects (and giggling). But a good job by UH, Coach Jones (with his usual enthusiasm -- did he really say Timmy would be the first pick in the draft?) and TC himself. They'll certainly know his name now, and that's what this is all about.
>> So the new FieldTurf surface means that BYU is back on the schedule. Yeah? That wasn't just an excuse. Was it?
>> FieldTurf. Will this never end? They left? Are you kidding me? Well, it sounds like the job is actually going to get done (at last), and who knows whose fault any of this was. But this just goes to show that once you rip the old stuff out you'd better be sure what's going to happen next, because then all you can do is wait. And hope.
It seems that this was the type of thing Larry Price and company warned us about all those months ago, to much public grumbling (and I got a nice, fun column out of e-mails basically calling me an idiot for saying it was good that somebody was asking some questions before the deal was done). Good thing this project has had seven months to happen, and not the short time frame everyone was pushing for a year ago.
>> I trust George Toma. And I can't wait to see Mike Bass run on the stuff.
>> In the years to come, we will look back and remember this as "the Summer of Jerome."
>> Wait a minute. The best basketball prospect to ever come out of Hawaii goes to Washington State?
Yeah, Derrick Low had great reasons for his choice: Pac-10, playing time, a personal relationship with a proven Final Four coach. But it's still Washington State.
But, hey, it's his life decision and nobody else's. Good luck, Derrick. See you in the NCAAs.
>> Riley Wallace can't get a break. His star player goes pro early. His prized project goes to football. The state's No. 1 recruit heads out of state.
He's still the luckiest man in town. Any day without a heart crisis or subdermal hematoma is a good day.
>> Dear Sports Columnist: "About Iolani ... Sorry, but I disagree. It's all about eating poi, kalua pig AND rice vs. eating just rice (as the present day Iolani situation looks compared to YOUR Lunas!)."
COMMENT: The Kevin Jackson Diet will sweep the nation.
>> Cayley Thurlby or Kanoe Kamana'o?
>> I don't know if it's a coincidence, but when I was in Omaha, Benny started hitting.
>> UH offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh is doing commercials. Question: What took so long?
>> Perhaps you're like me on this one. I didn't care what is in June Jones' contract.
But now I do.
He said yesterday they're working on getting this taken care of, and that's good news.
I'd like to keep things private, too, if it were me. But when you're a public official, that's just not how it works.
