Pearl City wins at LL regional

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. >> Bryson Namba's three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Pearl City held off Montana 4-3 at the Little League Major Division (11-12-year-old) Regional Tournament yesterday.

Namba was also the winning pitcher, striking out 10 while walking two and giving up five hits, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Hawaii plays Idaho today.

Mililani Bronco team loses to Puerto Rico

At Monterey, Calif., Christopher Pascual had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning but couldn't hold on as Puerto Rico defeated Mililani in the P.O.N.Y Bronco World Series yesterday.

Puerto Rico scored a single run in the fifth and two in the sixth on Christian Vazquez's homer. Hawaii will play today against either Raleigh, N.C., or host Monterey.

Lanikai Canoe Club celebrates 50 years today

Lanikai Canoe Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a luau tonight at Lanikai Park.

A limited number of tickets are still available for $25. The event starts at 5 p.m. For information, call Barney McKeague at 261-1175.

Aloha United undefeated in Veteran's Cup

Aloha United edged the Georgia Select 1-0 yesterday to remain undefeated in the men's over-55 division of the National Veteran's Cup soccer tournament at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park.

Aloha United also claimed a win in the men's over-40 division, betaing I.O. United, a combined team from Iowa and Oregon, 4-1.

Three Hawaii women's teams battled to draws yesterday. Aloha Spirit and the Seattle Sounders Select ended up 1-1 and Hawaii Five-O and Shear Power from Washington finished 0-0, both in the women's over-50 division, and Local Girlz played the Atlanta Aeros to a 0-0 standoff.

Semifinal matches are today, with the championship matches tomorrow.

Pampulov named new HPU tennis assistant

Former Hawaii Pacific tennis player Stefan Pampulov has been named the new assistant coach for the Sea Warrior men's and women's tennis teams.

During his four-year career, Pampulov was 58-12 in singles and 53-22 in doubles.
