Arts Academy gets
$20,000 from YSL, Honu
The Academy of Arts received cash gifts totaling $20,000 this week, $10,000 each from Yves Saint Laurant and Honu Group. That made Academy director Stephen Little's day. Sylvia Akaka made the presentation for YSL and Mona Abadir for Honu at a preview showing of art that is on sale. The Wednesday affair, with champagne and martinis, DJ Keith Kandell and a tasty spread by Chef Mike Nevin, was one of the Acad-emy's Showcase 2003 fund-raising events. YSL's Garine Zerounian flew in from New York with the firm's latest fashions that were modeled by Yingying Lee and Onaona Miller. Yingying and Onaona -- interesting names. Showcase chairs are Erin Choy and Susan Wo. Today's art sale is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 400 works by more than 100 Hawaii artists will be available. There is no admission fee for the art sale or to enter and place a silent auction bid on the Martin Blank original glass sculpture, valued at more than $30,000 ...

Another single handicapper on the Nick's team is Bill Murphy, who caddies for top PGA golfers when they compete here. Hearing that Bill is claiming a 10 handicap nowadays, Ben almost choked and gasped for air. All of the Nick's golfers were happy that senior PGA pros Bill Rogers and Bruce Lietzke chose to dine at Nick's recently ...
