Hula comes to public television

"American Aloha: Hula Beyond Hawaii," will air on "P.O.V." at 8 p.m. tomorrow on PBS Hawaii. The documentary by Lisette Marie Flanary and Evann Siebens tracks the movement of hula and Hawaiian culture across the United States. Howlin' Hounds

Honolulu's own Hellbound Hounds will be celebrating the release of their first full-length album, "Bound" (reviewed in today's Weekend section), tomorrow night at the Wave Waikiki. Since their inception, their unique blend of old-school hard rock and plenny attitude has won them fans wherever they've played. Amplified will also be performing, and there will be special appearances by cast members of MTV's "The Real World" Vegas and Paris series, and "Road Rules." Doors open at 9 p.m., and it'll be $10 admission, 21 and over.

Tour Lyon Arboretum

Learn about the selection and maintenance of heliconia and ginger as Ray Baker leads a walk through the Lyon Arboretum's extensive collection of these exotic plants from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and rain gear. Cost is $12 for nonmembers, $10 for members. Call 988-0456 for more information.

Rain forest fun for kids

Lyon Arboretum hosts an exploration of the rain forest for children entering grades 1 to 4 from Monday to Thursday.

Activities include insect hunts, rain forest hikes, cooking snacks, photography, arts and crafts.

Cost is $130 for nonmembers, $115 for members. Call 988-0456 or 988-0471 for registration information.

Bonsai show in Mililani

The Mililani Bonsai Club will hold its annual display of bonsai 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Town Center of Mililani.

The showcase will feature a variety of one-of-a-kind bonsai, small trees or shrubs trained and fashioned in such a way as to resemble small trees grown in small containers. Call 523-4128 for more information.

Medicinal plants tour

Bishop Museum presents guided tours of its Greenwell Garden, which has an extensive collection of medicinal and canoe plants, 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Fee is $5. Call 323-3318 for more information.
