NOT one, not just two, but 19 former Miss Hawaii winners will be appearing at the Hilton's Tapa Ballroom Aug. 30 for the second annual Yen Tao Zane scholarship fund-raiser, "Beyond the Sea." The event is named after the first Miss Hawaii to compete in the Miss America pageant. Billy Tack, who became Miss Hawaii after Angela Perez Baraquio won the Miss America title in 2000, and another former Miss Hawaii, Cathy Foy-Mahi, created the event and lined up a number of former title holders to perform, including Foy herself, Traci Toguchi, Dell-Fin Poaha, Cheryl Bartlett, Candes Gentry Takaki, Jennifer Hera-Pimental, Kehaulani Christian (Tahitian dance), Debbie Nakanelua-Richardson (hula), Lani Stone Ka'a'a, Marlene Kalahiki, Beverly Noa, Patricia Lei Anderson-Murray, Cheryl Toma-Sanders, Denby Dung and Erika Kauffman. Current Miss Hawaii Kanoelani Gibson will be singing "Natural Woman," the song she'll sing next month in the Miss America contest in Atlantic City ...

TALENTED director Ron Bright, who's trained many child and teen actors, will be looking for adults to appear in the production of "My Fair Lady" he'll be directing at Paliku Theater on the Windward Community College Campus. Call the theater for audition information ...

Sold Out

HARD to believe that Michael W. Perry & Larry Price have been hosting their Hanohano Room breakfast radio show on KSSK for 20 years. They're having an anniversary broadcast on Aug. 20 and the 1,300 seats are already sold out ... Soccer maven Jack Sullivan has to be a huge P&P fan, at least after winning $100 from the pair. He was driving back from an appointment when he heard a familiar voice on the radio. It was his wife, Mary K., telling Perry and Price that it was her husband who had a Mustang with "SOCCER" license plates. Seems she was outside when she heard her phone ring and it was a guy she didn't know telling her to call the station and let them know the "SOCCER" plates were theirs. Turns out the guy who'd tipped her off to the P&P query was Steve Legere, a former UH soccer player who knew Sullivan and said to himself, "Who else could it be?"...

THE Bistro at Century Center opened for lunch this week, and promises to be the place to go for a great, inexpensive lunch. Priciest item on the menu is $15 and yes, they have the onion soup which helped make the old Bistro on Kapiolani my favorite eating place in Honolulu ...

THEY'RE expecting 100,000 people to show up for the Family Fun Fair to be held at Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island Aug. 15 to 17. The family focused fund-raiser will feature fun rides, carnival type games, local entertainers and band performing on stage, food vendors (of course) and a film each night beginning at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15 it'll be "X-Men" -- the original. On Aug. 16 a plethora of youngsters and their parents will gather for "Harry Potter, Chamber of Secrets," and on the 17th it'll be "Shanghai Knights." Proceeds will go to various non-profit organizations like the YMCA and DARE ...
