Arthritis Foundation to
honor volunteer with party

John Sutton, longtime volunteer for the Hawaii branch of the Arthritis Foundation, will be honored at an annual foundation fund-raiser today at Oahu Country Club.

Trini Kaopuiki will emcee the event, titled "I'll Remember You." It will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by heavy pupus, musical entertainment, drawings and surprises.

Sutton has been on the local Arthritis Foundation board for almost 15 years. He was board chairman for seven years and also has chaired foundation events and executive committees.

His mother-in-law has struggled with rheumatoid arthritis for many years and he is committed to helping those with the disease and to support research to find a cure, the foundation said.

Tickets are $100 per person for the fund-raiser, with proceeds going to the Hawaii chapter of the Arthritis Foundation for programs and services.

The event is sponsored in part by the Building Industry Labor Association, First Hawaiian Bank, Theo Davies & Co., Pizza Hut Inc., Starr Seigle Communications and HMSA.

Arthritis is the leading cause of work disability in the United States, affecting 70 million Americans ,or one in four people.

An estimated 189,000 Hawaii residents have some form of the 120 diseases known as arthritis.
