Secrets to Success

Deborah Cole Micek

Step up your failure
rate and succeed

I had the privilege to meet with Robert Kiyosaki this month while he was in Hawaii. Some of the strategies he shares may be hard to hear for some. But those who have ears to listen without judgment will learn what the rich know about being wealthy that others do not.

The following are the secrets to success he shared with me simply because I was willing to ask questions and listen with an open mind.

1. Change the way you think. Getting rich is just a part of life.

Wealth is not the end goal. But if we don't make good choices that will bring us closer to more wealth, we will find ourselves complaining about our financial situation.

We form habits at an early age. Unless we retrain ourselves and increase our financial education, we will be stuck in a cycle of credit card debt instead of "good debt" that can make us money.

2. Step up your failure rate. Mistakes are commonplace to high achievers and the wealthy.

Tiger Woods is not afraid to play an imperfect game. Professional baseball players strike out more than amateur baseball players. If you only want to win all the time, you'll never realize your true potential.

Push yourself, and you'll achieve more success than you've ever dreamed possible.

The misconception by the majority is that successful people are perfect. In fact, it is just the opposite. Thinking successful people never make mistakes will damage your own progress.

This is the biggest killer of ultimate success -- or "gremlin" as I referred to in a previous article. Most people won't move forward to pursue their dreams because they haven't reached perfection yet. They're afraid of making a mistake, or losing face.

3. Learn from your mistakes. You'll get farther by being humble than you will by being arrogant.

4. Don't be afraid of criticism. Use it as fuel to succeed.

5. Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you and more successful than you.

6. Surround yourself with a team that is the best. Trust them to do their job in order to achieve greater results.

The richest people in the world know they can't do it on their own. If they want something done right -- they delegate it to the right people.

7. Hire a coach. When you share your goals with your coach, you'll not only get accelerated information to get you there faster, you'll also be held accountable to your vision.

8. Do everything you can to increase your sales skills and leadership skills.

9. Don't listen to the naysayers.

10. Listen to the voice inside you that is willing to go against the crowd. Allow that voice to direct you to the right path.

Coaching corner

Identify at least three people you surround yourself with on a daily basis who you consider wiser or more successful than you. Then ask yourself how well you receive advice from credible experts.

I dare you to adhere to the above advice Kiyosaki gave me, and see how your wealth increases as a result.
