Final set in Men's Night Doubles

The third-seeded team of Ryan Ideta and Erik Sandblom will face the seventh-seeded pairing of Michael Bruggemann and Erich Chen in the Men's Night Doubles final at Kailua Racquet Club today at 6 p.m.

Ideta and Sandblom defeated second-seeded Ikaika Jobe and Bradley Lum-Tucker 6-3, 6-3 in last night's first semifinal. Bruggemann and Chen defeated sixth-seeded Chris Ma and Malino Oda 6-7 (5), 6-4. 6-4 in the second semi.

Hilo's Cal Ripken team beats Nevada 6-0

Hilo defeated Nevada 6-0 yesterday at the Cal Ripken 12 and under Pacific Southwest Regional at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Hilo opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when Sam Manu-Olevao scored from third on a throwing error. Jeremy Crivello broke the game open later that inning with a grand slam, making the score 5-0. Crivello added a solo shot in the fifth inning.

Dung signs 6-10 forward out of San Jacinto

Hawaii Pacific basketball coach Russell Dung announced yesterday that Drazen Minic, a 6-foot-10 forward from San Jacinto College, has signed a letter of intent with the Sea Warriors.

The Yugoslavian helped San Jacinto finish second in the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament last spring.

"Minic is a quality big man with good outside shooting skills," Dung said.

Denver Broncos quarterbacks Danny Kanell and Nick Rolovich, a former Hawaii standout, talked about a play during drills at the team's training camp in Denver yesterday. Rolovich, who led the Warriors to a 9-3 record in 2001, was cut by the Broncos last season.
