A motorcycle police officer riding at the front of the funeral procession for fallen Honolulu Police Department solo bike officer Ryan Goto was taken to the Queen's Medical Center yesterday after he crashed his motorcycle on Punchbowl Street.
Police said the officer's motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a car stopped in traffic. He was able to walk on his own after the crash but as a precaution was taken to Queen's where he was treated for a minor leg injury and released.
The officer, 33, is a six-year veteran of HPD and has been a solo bike officer for 1 1/2 months.
The procession continued uninterrupted to Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, where Goto's body was buried.
Goto was killed July 23 when a car traveling in the opposite direction on Farrington Highway near Honokai Hale crossed the grass median into his path. A passenger in the car, 10-year-old Alacia Williams, also died in the crash.
People wishing to make a contribution to a fund for Goto's 6-year-old son can send their donations to Bowen Goto, Honolulu Police Federal Credit Union, 1537 Young St., 3rd Floor, Honolulu, HI 96826.
