McLachlin qualifies for U.S. Amateur
Honolulu's Parker McLachlin qualified for the U.S. Amateurs on Monday at the Turtle Bay Resort Golf Club. McLachlin shot a 1-under par 143 to nab the lone qualifying spot in the 36 hole Hawaii sectional qualifier. The U.S. Amateur is Aug. 18-24 at Oakmont Country Club (Oakmont, Pa.).
Dwyer, Ito in field of Trans National Amateur
Bridget Dwyer of Kailua was the top qualifier at the women's Trans National Amateur Championship. The Punahou grad fired rounds of 68-69 to lead a field of 64 that advanced to today's first round of match play.
Aiea High alumnus Merynn Ito also made the cut. The University of Nebraska golfer carded rounds of 77-80 to tie for 57th.
U.S. national volleyball team sweeps Italy
Former Punahou standout Lindsey Berg set the U.S. national team to a victory over Italy yesterday in the World Grand Prix.
Berg tallied 33 assists and had eight digs as the U.S. swept Italy 25-19, 25-19, 26-24.
SAY soccer starting up
The SAY soccer fall 7-aside season starts in Sept. and runs through Nov. The league is open to teams of boys or girls ages 5 to 19 subject to the number of teams entering each division.
The cost is $225 per team. The entry deadline is Aug. 10.
